Like many of us in the digital age, my entire digital existence revolved around a single point of failure: my Google account. This reliance exposed me to significant risks – risks that became a harsh reality in two instances.
GitHub Account Ban: Suddenly, I couldn't access my code on GitHub, stopping all my work and collaborations.
Dropbox Account Loss: When my Yahoo email was deleted, I lost access to my Dropbox, along with all the important files I had stored there.
These experiences showed me the dangers of depending too much on one service or account."
In response to these challenges, I embarked on a journey to construct a comprehensive, end-to-end solution. I created a full solution to protect my digital life:
Governance Framework: Setting up rules and guidelines for managing my data and who can access it.
Data Backup and Replication: Making copies of my important data in different places like Azure, GCP, and S3.
Email Backup: Keeping my important emails safe in more than one place.
Automated Processes: Using automation to handle backups and reduce manual work.
Phone Loss Protection: Preparing for the loss of my phone, which is key for accessing many services.
GitHub Replication: Keeping copies of my GitHub code on other platforms in case my account gets banned again.
This strategy isn't just about using tools; it's a complete plan to keep my digital information safe.
Implementing my solution has brought significant benefits:
Peace of Mind: Knowing my data is safe and can be accessed from different places.
More Time for Important Work: Automation frees up my time so I can focus on more valuable activities.
Reduced Risk: Storing data in different locations means I'm less likely to lose everything.
Better Security: My digital information is more secure than before.
Control Over My Digital Life: I'm no longer overly reliant on any single service provider.
This approach has not only protected my digital assets but also taught me a lot about how to manage personal data.
